The Management of the Liberian Media & Advertising Services has chosen the above picture as Photo of the Week. The photo was taken recently at the Minneapolis Mayor’s office when the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Organization of Liberians in Minnesota, Dr. Clarence Yaskey headed a four-man OLM delegation to meet with Mayor R.T. Rybak in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. The delegation included Margaret Toweh, Kamaty Diahn and John Jenkins Bartee.
During the meeting, Dr. Yaskey appealed to Minneapolis Mayor, R.T. Rybak, to assist in the extension of Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberians. Dr. Yaskey said the extension will allow those Liberians on DED to live in the US for additional 18 months. Deferred Enforced Departure for Liberians will expire next month.
The organization of Liberians in Minnesota (OLM) is a non-profit organization founded more than thirty years ago. The OLM’s mission is to serve the interests of nearly 25,000 Liberian immigrants in the state of Minnesota by providing a sense of community and serving as a bridge to the larger society to enable personal and community development. The Organization has its own community center located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.
Since last year, the Organization of Liberians in Minnesota has begun providing many programs to benefit Liberians in Minnesota. The programs are: job coaching and placement services, housing placement, ESL Referral Services and Immigration Services. Other programs include Resume Development, foreclosure Prevention and Counseling Services.
The Management of the Liberian Media & Advertising Services congratulates Dr. Clarence Yaskey and other Board Members for meeting with Mayor R. T. Rybak to discuss the status of Liberians on Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) and wishes the Board good luck in its endeavor.
